Primark has today (Oct 20 2026) announced that its new Wakefield store at Trinity Walk will officially open its doors on Friday 27th November at 09:00AM.
The new location marks the next chapter for Primark in Wakefield, with the retailer relocating from its existing home at The Ridings Shopping Centre. The new store will occupy the former Debenhams unit at Trinity Walk, keeping Primark in the heart of Wakefield city centre. The current store at The Ridings Shopping Centre will permanently close on Thursday 26th November at 17:30, ahead of the new location opening.
The move follows the relocation plans announced by Primark earlier this year and represents the retailer’s continued investment in Wakefield city centre. The new store will occupy a slightly larger site of 30,000 sq. ft. of retail space across one floor, offering customers great value fashion and everyday essentials.
All 80 store colleagues are transferring to the new location, where they will continue to serve Primark customers in Wakefield. A further 40 colleagues were also recruited to join the team.
Customers can expect a fresh, modern shopping environment featuring upgraded fixtures and fittings, improved signage and new display units to better showcase Primark’s products. The store will also offer Primark’s popular Click & Collect service, giving customers access to an even wider range of products through the Primark website.
Neil Ford, Director of Sales for the Midlands and West at Primark said: “We’ve been proud to serve customers in Wakefield for more than 30 years, and we’re delighted to be continuing that journey from our new home at Trinity Walk. The move gives us an opportunity to create an even better shopping experience for our customers while continuing to offer the great value fashion and everyday essentials they know and love from Primark.
“Our team is working hard behind the scenes to get everything ready, and we’re looking forward to welcoming shoppers through the doors in November. Opening just ahead of the festive season, the new store will be perfectly placed to help customers pick up everything from Christmas gifts and partywear to winter essentials and homeware.”
James White, Trinity Walk Centre Manager, said: “Thanks to Primark and Tenpin, the iconic former Debenhams unit will be fully reborn which is testament to these brands and the attraction of Wakefield as a city to do business, visit and shop.
“Huge credit to Primark for their investment and dedication to providing superb high street shopping in the Merrie City and we can’t wait to see them open their doors here at Trinity Walk.”
Primark first opened its doors in Wakefield at The Ridings Shopping Centre in 1994. The relocation to Trinity Walk comes as the retailer continues to invest in its UK store estate and create fresh, modern shopping environments that give customers greater convenience and choice.
