Parking update

24 March 2025

We’re making some slight increases to parking charges here, but wouldn’t unless we absolutely had to. As everyone knows, the past 2-3 years has seen a huge increase in costs to businesses thanks to things like inflation, energy and other factors – meaning everything is more expensive.

We’ve protected customers from a lot of these rises and absorbed the costs ourselves for as long as we could, but now we need to make some changes.

As you’ll see below, these slight increases put us mostly in line with council car parking charges.

We’ve also included a series of questions and answers that we’d want to ask and have answered as a shopper, hope that helps.
Massive thanks for your continued support Wakey and Yorkshire.

Parking changes FAQ

  • What will change?

The price of parking for one hour will go from £1 to £1.20, the price of parking for two hours will go from £1.80 to £2, three hours £2.60 to £2.80 and four hours £3.60 to £3.80.
And 5 hours will remain the same at £5 and £1 per hour thereafter.
We’ve done our best to make the minimum impact on price changes to help offset hugely increasing operating costs that have risen during the last 2-3 years.
These prices are pretty much in line with council charges for their car parks in Wakefield.

  • Why are prices changing?

We’ve done our best to protect customers from our huge increases in costs – costs that are completely out of our control. These costs have been driven up by inflation, continually rising energy bills along with other additional costs like car park materials, equipment and parts, which have all gone up and don’t look like coming down. If only…

  • What deals are on?

If you spend £10 or more at Sainsbury’s or Argos you get your first two hours’ parking for free meaning £2 will be taken off your total parking charge. So, grabbing a few bits while you’re here means a typical visit is free or very cheap.
If you’re a PureGym member parking is free for the first two hours.
Remember, to get any of these deals you must have your ticket validated in store and also put it into a pay machine to check it before leaving.

  • When is cheapest to visit?

It’s 50p all day parking every Sunday, every bank holiday and every evening after 6pm.

  • Will Sundays and bank holidays still be 50p all day?

Yes absolutely. No changes there and it’s also 50p after 6pm every evening.

  • Why isn’t it free all the time?

We are based right in a city centre, so we can’t offer parking. In reality people who work in Wakefield would most likely take many of the spaces leaving little or none for customers. Very few city centres offer free parking like ours.
It’s worth noting too that Sundays are the cheapest day to park here at just 50p all day – but it’s by far our quietest day for shoppers, footfall and parking. So cheap or free doesn’t always automatically mean busy.
Above all that, the car park charges help us keep it maintained and safe – it’s a big double decker space! In fact we could do with more.

  • Trinity Walk parking charges are expensive, right?

Nope. It’s worth looking at parking prices of surrounding like Leeds and further down the road, Sheffield. Bradford is pretty similar to ours. These new prices are generally in line with council charges for their car parking.

  • What else should I know?

We offer 10 minutes’ discretionary parking, so if you’re just nipping in to collect or drop-off then it’s free. Please see conditions on our website under ‘parking’.
It also remains card and contactless payments only, so please make sure you have a way of paying before entering.
